Mask/snorkel/fins/optical mask/buoyancy vest/noodle and either a stinger suit or wetsuit depending on the season.
Most importantly the fare includes a free guided snorkel tour with an experienced guide.
The cheerful, helpful crew will greet you on arrival at E finger in the Cairns marina, go directly to the boat where you can check in at the floating office, adjacent to Skedaddle and anything outstanding can be sorted there. Once checked in and before boarding Skedaddle you will sign on the safety manifest and be asked to remove your shoes and leave any bags locked in the office. Skedaddle has an excellent soft deck, making shoes un-necessary.
We recommended not to bring bags or jewellery as they are not required for the two and a 1/2 hours you are snorkelling, rings can fall off your fingers after being in the water for a time and there is limited space on-board Skedaddle for bags.
You need only the bare minimum you feel is required for snorkelling, we suggest you wear your swimming costume under your regular clothes to save time once at the reef.
On boarding Skedaddle our helpful crew will fit you with the correct sized fins and suit, make certain your mask seals properly, see if you require an optical mask and offer you a buoyancy vest. Additional noodles are carried on-board in any case. Once you have all your equipment they will guide you to your seat and stow your gear.
One thing to remember when selecting a seat – exciting at the front, smoother at the back.
Just before starting the engines, your captain will introduce your crew giving you some more information about the boat and tour. Once moving, there is a short safety demonstration and briefing. Then hold on, it’s off to the reef!
On arrival a site briefing reaffirming any safety matters, whilst the crew prepare the rescue tender and the Skedaddle for snorkelling.
Then it is into the water and the first activity is the highly recommended snorkel tour, this is part of your tour and will go for approximately 40 minutes – it is not compulsory, you are free to enjoy the reef with your buddy.
After the tour there is still more than an hour to revisit the sites already viewed or go exploring with your buddy.
After a good 2½ hours of snorkelling, diving or coral viewing you may be hungry tired and it is time for afternoon tea before returning to Cairns. You will be required to sign the safety manifest again to ensure all are on-board – then it’s off to Cairns. On arriving back in Cairns your shoes are laid out and the crew farewell.
